Verdict

GO Markets is one of two brokers in our 30-broker AU shortlist that was founded in Australia and has held its AFSL continuously since launch. The other is Pepperstone. That history matters. AFSL 254963 has been active since 2006, which makes GO Markets one of the longest-operating Australian-founded CFD brokers still trading under the same licence. For a category where most names are five to ten years old or are local arms of overseas operators, that’s a credibility signal worth weighing.

The Pro account (RAW pricing plus AUD 6 round-turn commission) is competitive on cost. Spreads start at 0.0 pips on EUR/USD with the commission added separately, which puts total cost in the same ballpark as Fusion Markets and IC Markets without quite matching the very tightest pricing in the AU set. Brand-wise, GO Markets sits a tier below CMC, IG and Pepperstone in awareness, but it has racked up several Investment Trends awards over the years and the Australian credentials are genuine.

Trading costs and fees

Pro account, RAW spreads plus commission

The Pro account is the one you want if you trade more than a handful of times per month. EUR/USD spreads start at 0.0 pips with AUD 6 round-turn commission per standard lot. At an AUD/USD rate around 0.65, that AUD 6 round-turn equates to roughly USD 3.90 per round-turn, or about 0.39 pips total cost equivalent on EUR/USD. That puts GO Markets close to Fusion Markets (around 0.45 pips equivalent) and within striking distance of IC Markets and Pepperstone Razor.

PairPro avg spread (pips)+ commission equivalentTotal cost
EUR/USD0.00.390.39
AUD/USD0.10.390.49
GBP/USD0.20.390.59
USD/JPY0.10.390.49
EUR/GBP0.30.390.69

Standard account, spread-only pricing

The Standard account starts at 1.0 pip on EUR/USD with no commission. That’s competitive with the Standard tiers at CMC and Pepperstone, but it’s not the cheapest option in the AU market for a casual trader.

Other fees AU traders should check

  • Overnight swap rates apply on positions held past 5 PM New York. Direction-dependent.
  • Currency conversion applies if you trade an instrument denominated in a currency other than your account base.
  • Withdrawal fees: $0 on most methods including bank transfer.
  • Inactivity fee: listed as $0 (verify before publish).

Trading platforms

GO Markets gives you both MetaTrader platforms plus a web-first proprietary option.

The web-based MetaTrader option for traders who don’t want to install desktop software.

GO Genius is GO Markets’ in-house platform layer. It includes signal feeds, sentiment data and strategy ideas pulled from the broker’s research stack.

  • FSA Mauritius, Tier 3 offshore
  • FSCA (South Africa), Tier 2

Public reviews

GO Markets carries solid TrustPilot scores from a smaller volume of reviews than CMC, IG or Pepperstone, a function of brand size rather than service quality. Common positives mentioned: platform stability, deposit and withdrawal speed, helpful onboarding.

How GO Markets compares to alternatives

Bottom line

GO Markets is a credible Australian-founded broker with one of the longer continuous AFSLs in the local CFD market. The Pro account is competitive on commission, the platform line-up covers the bases, and the Melbourne 2006 founding is a genuine trust signal in a category where most names are younger or are local arms of overseas operators.

The honest framing is this. If you trade actively and your priority is the absolute lowest cost, Pepperstone, IC Markets and Fusion Markets are the first three names to compare. If you want the broadest product range under one login, CMC and IG are ahead. GO Markets sits as a credible alternative for traders who specifically value the long Australian operating history.

FAQs

Is GO Markets safe for Australian traders?
Yes. GO Markets Pty Ltd holds AFSL 254963 with ASIC and has been Australian-regulated continuously since 2006. The broker is a member of AFCA, segregates client funds at an Approved Australian Bank, and provides mandatory negative balance protection to retail clients.
What leverage does GO Markets offer in Australia?
Retail clients receive ASIC's Product Intervention Order leverage caps: 30:1 on major forex pairs, 20:1 on minor pairs and gold, 10:1 on other commodities, 5:1 on share CFDs and 2:1 on cryptocurrency CFDs.
What's the minimum deposit at GO Markets in Australia?
AUD 200 on both Standard and Pro accounts. Higher than the $0 minimums at CMC and Pepperstone, but still a small starting balance.
Standard or Pro, which account should I open?
Pro for active traders, Standard for casual. The Pro account's tighter spreads plus AUD 6 round-turn commission almost always works out cheaper if you place more than a handful of trades per month.
Does GO Markets offer MT4 and MT5 in Australia?
Yes, both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are supported on the Australian entity. GO Markets also offers the GO WebTrader browser-based platform and the proprietary GO Genius layer.
Is GO Markets better than Pepperstone or IC Markets?
Pepperstone and IC Markets have larger client bases and slightly tighter headline spreads on their lowest-cost accounts. GO Markets has a longer continuous AFSL than either (2006 versus 2010 and 2007). For most active traders, Pepperstone and IC Markets remain our first picks. GO Markets is a credible third option, particularly for traders who want a long-established Australian-founded broker.
Does GO Markets charge an inactivity fee?
Listed as zero at the time of testing. Always verify against the current PDS before opening an account.
